Best Restaurants in Castroville

Friends Eating Lunch Together

Settled by Alsatian immigrants in the 1800s, Castroville retains the influence of its French and German cultural roots — and there’s no place you’ll sense that history more than in the cuisine! Today, Castroville is famous for its variety of authentic traditional German restaurants. We think there are more than a few spots — both Alsatian and American-syle — that you absolutely shouldn’t miss if you’re in town, so we wrote this guide to help you get the most out of your Castroville dining experience. Read below for the best restaurants in Castroville — according to the Nyle Maxwell Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Castroville team!

Castroville Cafe

Looking for a relaxed atmosphere and foods that’s simple and satisfying? The Castroville Cafe is your quintessential low-key spot for a light meal and great cup of coffee. The cafe building is actually a retrofitted old house with multiple rooms to sit in. Original wood floors give everything a rustic, homey feel. The menu includes salads, soups, sandwiches, plus grilled steaks and seafood. The menu changes daily, but some of our favorites have been the fried egg sandwich and a terrific Cuban sandwich!

Alsatian Restaurant

This humble old building houses one of Castroville’s finest Alsatian traditional restaurants. A meal at Alsatian Restaurant is something to remember, and we think it’s the perfect place to come with good friends and family. The atmosphere inside is rustic and cozy, and there’s a pleasant courtyard and garden outside to enjoy when the weather is good. Coming with a large group? Ask them about private party accommodations in the root cellar underneath the restaurant! Customer favorites include their sausage and salmon, but FYI — there are also vegetarian options!

Fremdes Pizza

When it comes to pizza, Fremdes gets our vote as one of the best restaurants in Castroville. Stop by for terrific wood-fired pizzas and nachos in a casual, family-oriented atmosphere. If you’re just passing through on your way to Balcones Heights, Fremdes is conveniently located right off highway 90. It’s also worth timing your visit for your favorite specials: half-price bottle son wine on Wednesday, half-price margarita pizza on Monday, and half-price pepperoni pizza on Sunday. As an added perk, many of their on-tap beers are from local San Antonio brewery Busted Sandal!
